Place your bets! Who will replace Enrique at Barcelona

Barring a miracle of biblical proportions at the Camp Nou in three weeks time, the Spanish champions FC Barcelona will be making an early exit from the Champions League this season. The Catalan club was forced to leave Paris in disgrace last night after being soundly thrashed by the French champions PSG by 4-0 at the Parc Des Princes.

That scoreline was not flattering either, as the French team was dominant throughout and all over the pitch. It was the Barca keeper Ter Stegen who was their best player as the likes of Messi, Suarez, Busquets and all were anonymous at best and just about as bad as I have ever seen them.

Hardly surprising that the knives are out for the manager Luis Enrique then, with the BBC reporting the words of one Catalan journalist who seems certain that the club will be appointing a new coach very soon. So unless Enrique and his team can perform at their absolute best to turn around this tie, the betting on who will be the next boss of Barca will soon be hotting up, unless you prefer another type of betting like slots.

Ernest Macia from Radio Catalunya said, “Luis Enrique is happy with the press normally but yesterday we saw him really struggling in the (post match) interviews.

“I don’t think he will be confident. I guess this will be the last year of Luis Enrique at Barcelona.”

So who might be the man to take over? The favourite at the minute is Ronald Koeman who is currently in charge of Premier League club Everton. Not a bad shout really, as the Dutchman has impressed in England and he did used to play for Barcelona.

Other names in the frame are Guardiola, Unai Emery, Frank De Boer, Carles Puyol and even Xavi. It is a tough one to call to be fair, but what seems more certain is that Enrique’s days in charge are numbered.
